Wind forecasting research, funded through the Xcel Energy Renewable Development Fund, has been selected for presentation at CIGRE 2008. The effort, jointly conducted by WindLogics, the Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG), EnerNex and AREVA T&D, developed advanced wind forecasting techniques to accommodate increasing amounts of wind generation and specifically examined “situational awareness” tools like the high wind warning system, as well as other components of efficient utility wind integration such as advanced probabilistic unit commitment algorithms for next-day planning.
“We’re pleased at the results of this research and honored to have the paper accepted for presentation at CIGRE 2008. Given the history and international stature of CIGRE, it truly is a personal career highlight for me to present the results of the work at CIGRE collaboratively with Charlie Smith, the Executive Director of UWIG,” said Mark Ahlstrom, WindLogics CEO.
CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) is a leading worldwide organization on electric power systems. For more on this Renewable Development Fund research project, visit the Xcel RDF website. For more information on CIGRE, please visit the symposium website.
