Position Description:
The Wind Forecasting Meteorologist position reports to the Wind Forecasting Product Manager, and is primarily focused on the development and ongoing improvement of the WindLogics wind forecasting system (WLFS).
Principal Duties / Responsibilities:
The WLFS team is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system designed to provide high quality wind energy forecasts for wind plant operators and utilities. The duties of the Wind Forecasting Developer include:
- Taking the lead on testing, documentation and delivery of new features and improvements for the wind forecasting product.
- Monitoring the real-time flow of wind plant site data into the system.
- Monitoring the real-time flow of NCEP / NCAR / NOAA / WMO data into the system.
- Tracking the status of mesoscale (MM5) and local (Minerve) site specific wind flow modeling.
- Ensuring that system output data flow to the site database and are available via the web pages.
- Communicating and coordinating with forecast operations regarding specific details of system implementation including system releases, patches, updates and internal training.
Experience/Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or related field.
- A successful track record of three or more years of experience as a consulting meteorologist.
- Familiarity with NCEP / NCAR / NOAA / WMO data sources (numerical model and other).
- Demonstrated ability to clearly understand system needs, requirements and priorities.
- Ability to innovate and collaborate within a fast paced entrepreneurial organization.
Special consideration will be given to candidates who successfully demonstrate the following abilities, knowledge and experience:
- Master’s degree or better in Meteorology or related field.
- Wind industry experience.
- Familiarity with mesoscale and local wind flow models (MM5, Minerve).
- Familiarity with computer based learning systems (support vector machines, neural networks).
- Familiarity with computer scripting languages (PHP), and SQL based database engines (MySQL).
