Mark Ahlstrom, WindLogics CEO, will be participating in a panel titled Advanced Operating Strategies to Maximize Plant Performance, sharing his insights on separating wind variability from the analysis of wind plant performance. His presentation, Separating Variability from Performance: Operational Assessment, Indexing and Prediction, will focus on three topics:

  • Appreciating that wind variability and wind plant performance are distinct issues
  • Understanding how we can separate them and then deal with each more effectively
  • Using these methods to explain actual performance and predict future performance

“Operating results of any power plant depend on both the available fuel supply and the efficiency of converting that fuel into electric energy,” said Mark. “We must carefully separate the fuel issues – the available wind resource at the wind plant – from the operating results to understand performance in a useful way. By doing so, we also gain important insights for dealing with wind risk and long-term forecasting.”

The 4th Annual AWEA Wind Energy Fall Symposium, scheduled for November 19 -21, 2008 in Palm Desert, CA, will feature a conference theme of Accelerating Wind Industry Growth Toward 20 %. Over 600 wind energy professionals are expected to attend. For more information, please visit the symposium website.
